Description
For this modern opera by Jonathan Harvey the minimalist stage is filled with a few plastic bags, a handful of abandoned shoes and, in the background, an immense projection of a vast and colorful mountain landscape. In the video we move through the mysterious scenery in extreme slow motion, passing by steaming rivers and a blanket of mist. Everything moves so slowly that the landscape appears to be frozen in time, tensely awaiting something that feels unavoidable. In the last tableau of the opera, when the music unexpectedly lightens in athmosphere, the landscape explodes, still in an extreme slow motion. Torn away junk and shreds float through the air like dust particles in a ray of light. The explosion comes to us as a liberation, as a strange, deep exhalation. Finally.
